Hagar Records First Top Five of the Season During Season Debut at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 7, 2015) – Derek Hagar registered his first top five of the season last Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
However, the night was anything but easy for Hagar, who drew a high number to start at the back of a heat race on the quarter-mile bullring.
“We didn’t do very well in the heat race,” he said. “It was around the top and slick on the bottom. Plus, we had a couple of squirrels that didn’t know where they wanted to go so it was pretty hectic.”
Hagar advanced from eighth to sixth place in the heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.
“I think we ran around ninth or 10th for about half the race,” he said. “We had a long red flag. I was sitting there thinking about what I needed to do. I pulled my wing back and on the restart I gassed it up and started doing slide jobs. Within about eight laps we were up to fifth.”
Hagar’s bid for a podium came up a little short as he slid off the track, which packed his right front tire with mud, with a handful of laps remaining. He was conservative in the closing laps to maintain the fifth-place result.
“It turned from a bad night into a good night going from 12th to fifth,” he said. “It was a good boost. I wish we had a caution with a few laps to go because I think we could have had a top two or top three.”
Hagar’s next scheduled race is April 18 at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
