Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 1, 2017) – Derek Hagar earned his 12th podium finish of the season last Saturday during a USCS Series event at Greenville Speedway.

Hagar opened the night by placing fourth in the dash before he won a heat race from the pole position.

“We struggled a little in the dash, but we got it better for the heat race,” he said. “We lined up fifth for the main event and on the start everybody moved up and I drove to third down the front straightaway. Coming off turn two I was in second. I started chasing (Tim) Crawley down. We had a caution around Lap 6 or Lap 7. After that I didn’t gain on him and he didn’t pull away. We had a couple of good runs at him in traffic, but one time I hit the cushion and packed the right front wheel with mud. It handled terribly after that and I was trying to hang on the last eight to 10 laps.”

Hagar maintained the runner-up position to post a second-place result for the sixth time this year.

He is slated to return to action in a midget this Friday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series. It will mark his midget debut at the high-banked track, where he has only competed once in a winged sprint car.

“I raced in the Ironman 55 in 2012 I think and we made the show with our 360ci engine,” he said.

Hagar qualified 28th quickest before he advanced from 10th to seventh place in a heat race. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, in which he ended second to transfer into the main event. He ended the night with a 19th-place finish.
