Hagar Captures First Two Career Midget Victories During Arkansas Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 16, 2020) – Derek Hagar has won a lot of races in many different types of cars, but a triumph had eluded him in his limited time behind the wheel of a midget.
That changed last weekend when Hagar swept the weekend, guiding Hagar Proctor Racing to a heat race and main event victory on Friday at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., and on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.
“It was a good weekend,” he beamed. “Midget racing is definitely different than what we’re used to doing. It was a weekend we put on just to have something to do to where we get to race and it worked out. We had a good car both nights and we were able to come out on top.”
Hagar claimed a heat race from the pole position on Friday at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway. He lined up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.
“I tried to run the top the first couple of laps, but I couldn’t get anything done,” he said. “I was noticing second place was staying with me on the bottom so I went down to the bottom. About five laps in it started taking patchy rubber. We led every lap and were able to get our first midget victory.”
Momentum continued on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway, where Hagar advanced from second to win a heat race and the main event.
“It was slide job after slide job for the lead in the feature,” he said. “We got a good start and then it was called back for a caution. On the third start we got going, but we fell back to second. Howard Moore put a half straightaway on me. We rode there until we got to traffic. Sometimes it pays to run second. Everything happens so quickly and the outcome can change quickly. He got checked up by a car and I was able to keep my momentum up and do a slide job on him. We did that for three or four laps. It made the racing so much fun. I was able to clear him and three lapped cars at the same time. I think I led the last six laps.”
The two wins give Hagar three trips to Victory Lane in only seven races this season.
Hagar plans to drive a 360ci sprint car for Jerry Caldwell this Saturday at Riverside International Raceway during the 2nd annual Greg Hodnett Memorial.
“I ran a 305 sprint car for him once two or three years ago,” Hagar said. “Hopefully we can contend for another win this weekend. I ran third during the inaugural Greg Hodnett Memorial last year so it’d mean a lot if we could come out on top this weekend.”
